District Dialogue: Kids Have Something to Say
Gifted students embark on an innovative unit of discovery that brings learning to life. Throughout this experience, students collaborate with district leaders to explore and discuss pressing topics that matter to them, sharing their ideas through unique and thoughtful perspectives.
This authentic learning opportunity empowers students to research, write, speak, listen, and think critically while engaging in meaningful, real-world conversations. Under the guidance of gifted education teacher Ms. Aynisha Taylor, students are supported in developing their voices while taking ownership of their learning.
The multi-module unit is aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence in English Language Arts, allowing students to apply academic skills in purposeful, real-world contexts. As a result, they strengthen their ability to communicate effectively, analyze information deeply, and express their ideas with clarity and confidence.
Most importantly, this experience prepares students for college and career readiness by building confidence, enhancing collaboration and problem-solving skills, and developing essential digital literacy. The rigor and depth of this unit support students in reaching the Distinguished Learner level on the Georgia Milestones, as they demonstrate higher-order thinking, synthesize ideas across multiple sources, and communicate with intention and purpose.
